A Mexican passport photo must be 35 × 45 mm (4.5 × 3.5 cm) on a plain white background. Note that many SRE offices and consulates capture your biometric photo on-site during the appointment, so check your specific office before printing anything.

Official SRE requirements

Mexican passports are issued by the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE). When a printed photo is required, it is 35 × 45 mm on a plain white background, showing the applicant facing front with the head uncovered and the face fully identifiable.

Glasses are not permitted — this includes both dark and regular prescription glasses — and no hats or headwear that impede identification are allowed. The expression should be neutral and the photo must be recent, generally taken within 30 days of applying. For children (menores), the same size, background and framing rules apply, though a fully neutral expression is not always enforced for infants.

Getting the digital size right

Because many appointments capture the photo during the biometric station, do not buy prints until the exact SRE office, embassy or consulate page asks for one. If you do need a print, size it to 413 × 531 pixels at 300 DPI for the 35 × 45 mm format.

Our tool crops to Mexico's ratio and sets a clean white background instantly. All processing happens on your device — your photo is never uploaded — which keeps your identity image private from start to finish.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring printed photos to my Mexican passport appointment?

Often not. Many SRE offices and Mexican consulates take the passport photo and biometrics on-site during your appointment. Check your specific location's instructions before printing.

Can I wear glasses in a Mexico passport photo?

No. The SRE requires the face to be fully identifiable without dark or prescription glasses. Remove all eyewear before the photo is taken.

How recent must a Mexican passport photo be?

Very recent — generally taken within the 30 days before you apply, so that it reflects your current appearance. An old photo can lead to rejection.
