The Twitch profile banner is the first branding a visitor sees, but it is not a clean rectangle. Your circular profile picture and your channel name sit on top of the banner's left portion, covering it. Anything important placed on the far left — a logo, a tagline, a face — will be hidden behind that overlay. Push your key visuals to the center and right of the 1200x480 canvas.
Do not confuse this with the offline screen. The profile banner (1200x480) is the header of your page; the offline screen (1920x1080) is what fills the video player when you are not live. They are separate uploads with different shapes, so resize to whichever surface you are updating.
